Penny had her baby yesterday. A little girl. I named her Eleanor after the Beatles song, Eleanor Rigby, but we all call her Elly.
I don't know where these pygmy ears came from, because Penny and Prince both have La Mancha ears!
Now just Willow is left to kid. I hope her babies have little ears :)

Lucy had her baby yesterday afternoon. She was nine days early, so I was worried that he'd be a preemie, but he's just a regular little kid. A very cute kid, at that.

Here he is! Baby Ringo.

April Updates!

Hello, blogsphere! Haven't been around in a while. Life just keeps on going, whether or not you are posting regularly on your blog. Lots of stuff has been happening this spring. Here's the sitch.

Penny, Lucy and Willow continue to expand. I gave them udder trims the other day so I could see any udder changes easily. Closer to their due dates I will give them a more drastic shave, on the legs, tail and around the vulva. (Visit my Kidding page to see due dates and such.)

We got nine Muscovy ducks. Four hens and five drakes. Soon some of the boys will be meeting the business end of a knife and we will see how duck tastes fresh from the farm! I am eager to re-learn butchering. The last time I did, it was a few years ago and a chicken, I've never done a duck before.

Jellybean has become the sweetest little goat ever. Any time I go into the pen, she's glomming herself all over me. She likes having her cheeks scratched very much and who am I to say no to her? She's the cutest, tiniest goat around.

We have seedlings started. Tomatoes, bell peppers, jalapeno peppers, melons, onions, and probably some other stuff.

My dad and I started building a cold frame to grow lettuce. It was going to be a surprise for my mom but my loose lipped sister came downstairs to see what we were doing and we told her it was a completely different thing, because we knew she couldn't keep a secret, but then she told our mom anyway and then mom came down and it was a whole big thing. But anyway! Cold frame! Cool stuff.

Lucy the Goofball Goat

I think Lucy is a bit of a goof, don't you?
In three or so months, she's going to have her babies. I remember last year when Penny had her, she was the cutest baby ever! She even had a trick, you could bend one of your legs and hold your arms out, and then she'd take a running leap, jump onto your leg and the scramble into your arms. It was adorable. She's not that tiny little kid anymore though! She's going to be a mom soon. My baby is growing up :)

A Bit More Then They Can Chew

1). Wow, two blog posts, two days in a row? I feel so accomplished. Maybe I'll finally start blogging more regularly.

2). I've been taking care of my friends horses and goats, and it just so happens, that they are the very same friend I sold Cinnamon and Sugar too! Of course, when they lived here, Sugar's name was Stella, but they changed it to go with Cinnamon and I thought it was such a cute pair of names I wished that I had thought of it. So when I go over today, I'll take some pictures!!

3). Quinoa had a miscarriage, probably caused by being headbutted in the side. I was terribly upset, because it was her first baby and it's just a sad situation all around. Then, the placenta didn't detach, and I had to call a vet to come give her antibiotics so she wouldn't get an infection. He gave her two shots, and gave me a large syringe of Penicillin, so I could give 2ccs everyday for five days. She's doing very well now, you wouldn't even guess that anything had happened.

4). As goaty due dates approach (well, they still have three more months, but that IS closer then it was like, a month ago) I get so excited about baby goats and taking pictures of baby goats and just, you know, BABY GOATS.

5). It needs to stop being freezing cold. For the last four or five days, it's been hovering around 10F which sucks, to be perfectly honest. My goats are not happy with me for keeping them locked up all day, but they'd be less happy if I put them out in the cold.
Come on, Spring!

Obstreperous Geese

Obstreperous, adjective. Unruly, turbulent, noisy.

I think that fits geese pretty well. Even when they are in midair.
